Book 2 is for Grades 6-7 and has 78 guided topics in five kinds of writing: personal, narrative, descriptive, imaginative and opinion, with richer vocabulary and more debate - from "When trees started walking" and "I need a time machine so I could..." to "Should mobile phones be allowed in school?" and "Global warming: what can we do?".
Every page gives the child a topic, three guiding questions printed lightly behind the lines, a word bank of six words, a Star Word to stretch vocabulary and linking words. Opinion pages ask the child to take a stand and give reasons. A "My check" box builds the habit of checking spelling, full stops and paragraphs, and the Teacher's box gives up to four stars and a remark. Dated pages turn the journal into a record of progress. The book ends with "My Best Piece", "My Word Collection", a Star Tracker and a "Young Writer of the Year" certificate.
